The list of monuments in the Ile-de-France stamped “energy sobriety” is growing. The lights of the Louvre pyramid in Paris will be extinguished, from this Saturday, September 17, at 11 p.m. instead of 1 a.m., announces on France 2 the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak. Same thing for the facade of the Palace of Versailles which will no longer be lit from 10 p.m. instead of 11 p.m., from next week.
“However, these symbolic measures are not enoughexplains Rima Abdul Malak. It is important to mobilize citizens, but what is important is to work concretely on how to act for the ecological transition in our museums, in our theaters, in our cinemas, in all cultural places in France.”
Another symbolic measure taken earlier in the week in Paris: the lighting of the Eiffel Tower will be turned off at 11.45 p.m. instead of 1 a.m. from September 23. The Iron Lady’s night lighting accounts for nearly 4% of its power consumption.
