The Le Mans stadium will recover the lawn of the Champions League final

It’s now official: the MMArena stadium in Le Mans will have a new lawn, and not just any, since it is the one on which the final of the Champions League will be played. Real Madrid to Liverpool this Saturday, May 28. Currently being installed at the Stade de France, this high-tech lawn will only stay for one month in the Paris region; it will be transferred at the end of June to Sarthe to replace the current lawn, which has reached the end of its life.

A lawn made in Spain

This 8800 square meter hybrid lawn arrived in rolls from Barcelona where it grew in a “turf bed”. It is this technical solution that was chosen because the deadlines were extremely tight, while the Stade de France last Sunday hosted the giant concert of Indochina. A concert whose date was already set when the decision to relocate the Champions League final to Paris was taken after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. After this meeting, the lawn will host two more matches for the French football team and the Top 14 rugby final on June 24, 2022, before leaving for Le Mans.

In a press release, Le Mans Stadium indicates that “this operation will allow the MMArena to benefit from a very high-tech lawn for a cost disproportionate to the purchase of an entirely new carpet“; according to information from France Bleu Maine, this is less than 100,000 euros, while equipment of this type can cost up to 500,000 euros. The old hybrid lawn, in place at Le Mans for four yearswill be recycled“, indicates Le Mans Stadium, who recalls that the latter had first served a year at the Allianz Riviera in Nice before being installed in Sarthe.
