“We are not facing apolitical associations, but facing political adversaries,” reacts Sébastien Chenu, vice-president of the National Rally, on franceinfo Wednesday April 24, after the complaint, revealed by franceinfo and Le Monde, of the LDH and Utopia 56 for complicity in crimes against humanity and complicity in torture against the number 3 on the RN list, Fabrice Leggeri, former boss of Frontex.

“These are two extremely politicized associations, extremely hostile to the National Rally”affirms the deputy from the North, pointing in particular to the vice-president of the Human Rights League, Marie-Christine Vergiat “who was still a communist MEP a few years ago”. According to him, “These are people who lead hostile battles against the National Rally and pro-migrant battles.”

A “political maneuver”

Fabrice Leggeri served as executive director of Frontex, the European border and coast guard agency, from 2015 to 2022. In this complaint, he is accused of having actively facilitated illegal pushbacks at sea migrant boats as part of his duties. “We criticize Fabrice Leggeri for trying to do his job”reacts Sébastien Chenu.

“Nothing has been done outside of the legal aspect of the law of the sea.”

The vice-president of the National Rally denounces “a political maneuver in the middle of an electoral campaign, to try to discredit a senior official who only did his duty, who wanted to do it as best as possible while respecting the law of the sea and a legal framework”he continues.

“The elements we have today allow us to say that this senior official acted in accordance with the law. The courts will appreciate”he believes. “I completely trust Fabrice Leggeri to know how to demonstrate this without any ambiguity”, underlines Sébastien Chenu. The two men will meet in the North on Saturday in Abscon for a conference-debate.
