The chauvinists are angry: this Sunday, December 31, for the traditional New Year’s greetings, Emmanuel Macron chose to honor many foreign countries, in an alignment of flags in the garden of the Élysée, just behind the head of state. This scenography has been much mocked, but also criticized by defenders of the tricolor flag, regretting that the latter is so little represented behind the head of state, and demoted alongside all the other foreign flags, without any predominance. A choice of the president himself which has been widely commented on and criticized on the Web, with many French people regretting the lack of visibility given to France.
“The French flagfar in the background, with the EU flag seen as a country” protests an Internet user, supported by dozens of others: “Last year, we had the European flag next to the French flag. This year, there are so many that we can no longer find our little ones. Next year it will be an orgy”, “Is the flags in laundry mode drying at the bottom of the Elysée garden new? All this to clear the French flag”… In this line of flags, that of France could obviously be recognized, but also that of the European Union, the 2024 Olympic Games which will be organized by Parisbut also those of Algeria and Afghanistan.
