“The King’s Suppers”, Arion, Mathieu Lussier

The appointment of Mathieu Lussier to succeed the pioneer Claire Guimond at the head of Arion was a brilliant idea. The Montreal baroque ensemble has very positively renewed itself musically (admirable first violin stand) and the healthy curiosity of the conductor has made the ensemble a partner of the Baroque Music Center of Versailles. Lussier conducts scores that the latter edits. We could see this as opportunism, but it is also and above all a real passion for clearing land which will bear fruit. At this rate, in the medium term, Arion will make a name for himself in late Baroque and Revolutionary music in the cradle of the repertoire, in France itself. And we bet that tours could well come in the second half of the decade. This CD in some way inaugurates what we hope will be this future conquest. The superb program takes us from Louis XIV to the end of the reign of Louis
