As the first Hyundai Ioniq 5s begin to hit the roads of the province, Kia has unveiled the price list for its cousin, the Kia EV6.

The Korean brand’s first model to be based on an electric skateboard-like platform, dubbed the E-GMP, the EV6 will have a starting price of $44,995 for the rear-wheel-drive livery with the lower-density battery. energy (58 kWh) and a less powerful 168 hp engine. Kia estimates that this version will have a range of 373 km. It’s exactly the same price as the Volkswagen ID.4, but the latter claims to be able to travel 400 km before requiring a recharge.
The two-wheel-drive range-extended livery bumps the bill up to $52,995, but pushes the theoretical range to 300 miles using a higher-capacity battery (77.4 kWh) mated to a 225-hp motor . The all-wheel-drive versions will be offered between $56,960 and $63,960 in exchange for a range of 441 km and 321 hp of total power.
Where Kia’s strategy differs from Hyundai’s is in terms of the more upscale model. The 577hp GT livery will directly tackle the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance with nearly 100hp more. Kia hasn’t commented on its range or price, but says it will arrive at dealerships later in the year.
The Kia EV6 will also benefit from an 800 V electrical architecture allowing ultra-fast energy transfer between components. It will also be compatible as standard with terminals that can reach 350 kW of charging power, which will greatly reduce the charging time compared to the Mustang Mach-E and Volkswagen ID.4, which are limited to 150 kW and 125 kW respectively.
The Kia EV6 will go on sale in February. Note that several versions will be eligible for the full federal subsidy for electric vehicles. This should logically also be the case on the Quebec side.
