A hit-and-run turned into a tragedy in Cherbourg, in Manche, on Sunday June 9. A 19-year-old young man was killed by a police officer, she was taken into police custody and the IGPN was contacted.

A few flowers, placed discreetly on a sidewalk, in tribute to Sullivan, 19 years old. The young man was shot dead by a police officer in a district of Cherbourg (Manche), causing emotion among residents. “He was a quiet young man, who enjoyed himself, who had parties,” says a neighbor. Monday June 10 in the evening, a few scuffles even broke out in his residence.

On the evening of Sunday June 9, the police attempted to control a vehicle which they believed was traveling at excessive speed. The driver did not comply and continued on his way, before being stopped by another police car. The three occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee. Among them, Sullivan allegedly intentionally pushed one of the police officers who then responded with a taser. The police officer then allegedly used her firearm and fatally injured the young man. His custody is still ongoing.
