It was one of the projects entrusted by Emmanuel Macron to the Prime Minister. However, the immigration law had to be postponed for lack of support in the National Assembly. The France Télévisions teams will explain everything to you.

Until July 14, several bills will be debated in the National Assembly such as green industry or justice. The flagship text which was particularly observed, that on the immigration law, has been postponed. The Prime Minister has announced its postponement until next fall. “Today, there is no majority to vote for such a text as I was able to verify yesterday by talking to the head of the Republicans”, she explained then. This text was one of the missions that Emmanuel Macron had entrusted to him. With 247 deputies, the Prime Minister does not have an absolute majority, located at 289 votes.

Further securing the Italian border

The Les Républicains deputies who wanted a more repressive law were not convinced by the proposal made. “This result is the consequence of the Government’s desire to carry out yet another project that would regularize illegal immigrants”, comments Éric Ciotti, MP for the Alpes-Maritimes. If the law is rejected, the Government still intends to act by further securing the Italian border. From next week, 150 police and gendarmes will complement the agents already on site. From this summer, a border force will be launched.
