Most plastic yoghurt pots are never recycled. In France, around 130 are consumed per year and per inhabitant.

On average, in France, we consume 128 pots of yogurt per year and per inhabitant. But these 8.5 billion plastic jars are in fact very complex packaging to recycle. To make a yogurt pot and its label, you need no less than seven materials, including polystyrene, ink, polypropylene, paper, aluminum, etc. This is why recyclers in France have decided not to recycle yoghurt pots.

“When we have such thin layers so with little resale value, which are so intertwined with each other, it means that they are very difficult to separate and it is not at all interesting from an economic point of view. , in terms of profitability, to seek to recycle this type of material “, explains Enzo Muttini, co-founder of M. & Mme Recyclage. Also, less than 3% plastic yoghurt pots are recycled.
