The text of Starman, 1972 tube by David Bowie, written by the artist’s hand, sold at auction on Tuesday September 27 for the sum of 203,500 pounds (nearly 227,000 euros), according to the company Omega Auctions, specialist in related sales in the world music.

The song, included in the album Ziggy Stardustphenomenal success of the British singer, evokes “Starman Who Waits in the Sky” and wants to meet people.

The text sold on Tuesday, initially priced at 40,000 pounds (about 44,600 euros), is written in blue ink on a small-squared A4 sheet. We see the changes made by Bowie as well as spelling mistakes corrected by the singer.

The document was exhibited during a retrospective at the Victoria & Albert Museum dedicated in 2013 to the singer, who died in January 2016 at the age of 69.

The buyer is a private collector whose identity has not been revealed.
