It’s a small revolution that is coming. The green car insurance sticker, which has been on the windshield for almost 40 years, could soon disappear, because in fact all the data is now digitized.

It is ubiquitous on windshields, and yet the green sticker could soon disappear from cars. Rather good news for the drivers we met on Monday, May 9. “It can be quite a lot, because we often forget to renew it,” said a driver. “It’s no use”, adds a woman. The insurance sticker became compulsory in France in 1986, with a supporting communication campaign.

Even today, the sticker must prove that the vehicle is well insured, otherwise it is a fine of 35 euros. But it is too easily falsifiable, according to the insurance companies, which propose that the police have direct access to the file of insured vehicles, via the license plate. “We have this file which is much more effective in combating fraud and non-insurance”says Florence Lustman, President of France Assureurs.
