Towards strengthening the quality of our gastronomy? The government wants to put in place a measure to protect this know-how: by 2025, dishes that are not “homemade” must be clearly identified on restaurant menus.

Promoting home-made cooking: this is the government’s desire. Among the ideas: any dish that is not “homemade” must be indicated on restaurant menus. An announcement well received by consumers: “it is necessary, the customer must be aware of what he is buying, then we quickly see if it is ‘homemade’ or not”, estimates a restaurant customer.

Some restaurateurs are skeptical

This new label still leaves some professionals skeptical, like this manager of a restaurant where everything is cooked from raw products: “you can very well buy something ready-made and add something on top, it will be considered ‘homemade’”, she explains.

In another establishment, a restaurateur admits to having difficulty offering homemade dishes: “When you have 250, 300 seats, it is complicated to have fresh products”, says William Guth, responsible for the “Saint-Georges”. This mandatory display for dishes that are not “homemade” should be implemented by 2025 at the latest.
