The government intends to facilitate shooting protocols against wolves, franceinfo learned on Thursday September 14 from a source close to the matter. In the new national wolf plan 2024-2029, which must be presented Monday September 18, shooting will be made easier by eliminating, for example, the obligation for wolf scouts, officially responsible for managing the regulation of harmful species, to illuminate the animal before shooting. This future plan is eagerly awaited by breeders who complain of increasing attacks on their herds and fear the disappearance of pastoralism.

The government plans to adapt the harvest rate set today at 19% of the lupine population, or up to 209 killable wolves out of the 1,104 counted for the year 2023 by the authorities. In 2022, 169 wolves were killed out of the authorized quota of 174.
