“We have to make difficult decisions but which allow women and Damien Abad to be heard. There are clear signals to give, we cannot relive what we experienced in the Hulot affair”, reacted the First Secretary of the PS Olivier Faure Monday, May 23 on France inter about the accusations of rape against Damien Abad. The new Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and People with Disabilities, appointed Friday, May 20, is accused of rape by two women.

For the First Secretary of the PS, this case “is serious”.

“I know that this can sometimes weaken the principle of the presumption of innocence, but the voice of women must be heard”insists Olivier Faure. “It has been minimized and relativized for too long. Shame must change sides”. For the boss of the Socialist Party, the “bundle of presumptions” that surrounds Damien Abad, “should have led the government, which scanned the CVs of all those entering the government, to take precautions”.

That’s why, says Olivier Faure, that “If I were Prime Minister, I would say to Damien Abad ‘I have no particular reason to think that women lie (…) there is a doubt that exists today and awaits a court order, I wish you weren’t in the government'”. The First Secretary of the PS speaks of a precautionary measure.
