The government announced Monday September 11 in a press release that it will launch from September 15 a campaign to combat sexual violence against children. It’s about a “new national awareness and prevention campaign”. One of the objectives of this operation is to “arouse the attention and responsibility of all, and encourage people to spot, listen and report” this sexual violence affecting children. The campaign will be broadcast during half-time of the France-Namibia World Cup rugby match on Thursday September 21.

“160,000 child victims each year”

It is also about “shedding light on the scale and seriousness of this violence” but also to bring “concrete solutions in terms of detection and reporting so that victims no longer carry alone the heavy secret imposed on them”details the government press release, which calls for “end the silence around sexual violence” of which children are victims. This operation is based on the figures revealed by the Independent commission on incest and sexual violence against children and child protection associations: “160,000 children suffer sexual violence every year. 1 child is a victim of incest, rape or sexual assault every 3 minutes”.

The campaign reminds “that it is not acceptable that children alone bear the responsibility for putting an end to the secrecy which still surrounds sexual violence and refers to 119, a free and confidential national emergency call number”.

The campaign will be launched on September 15 in animated displays and digitally, then in cinemas from September 20. It will be broadcast on television for the first time on September 21, then more widely from October 6 until November 2. On social networks, it will be the subject of thematic content carried in particular by child protection experts and professionals.

Before the launch of this government initiative, Charlotte Caubel, Secretary of State for Children, will go to 119, accompanied by Olivier Véran, government spokesperson this Tuesday to discuss with the professionals involved.
