The Goncourt, the most prestigious French literary prize, was awarded Wednesday to the Senegalese writer Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, for The most secret memory of men, novel inspired by the cursed fate of Malian writer Yambo Oulologuem.
Mr. Mbougar Sarr, 31, is the first writer from sub-Saharan Africa to be honored with this award. He obtained six votes in the first round, announced Philippe Claudel, secretary general of Goncourt, at the Drouant restaurant in Paris.
