After threats with a firearm by the brother of one of his agents, N’Golo Kanté wants “things to be settled” to avoid any problem with him or his relatives. This is explained by Antoine Bourlon, journalist for France Football, who investigated the N’Golo Kanté affair. Brut chatted with the journalist.
The facts date back to the spring of 2017. Playing at Chelsea in London, the footballer, leaving a restaurant in the Paris region, was invited into a car and then threatened with a gun on his knee, asking him to leave his agent. “According to the elements that we were able to cross-check with Thymoté, my colleague, he is the brother of one of the agents (who threatened the footballer) because his brother was not on the first deal for the transfer to Chelsea” explains Antoine Bourlon, sports journalist at France Football. With Thymoté Pinon, he initiated the investigation into footballer N’Golo Kanté. Brut met with him to talk about his investigation.
Threatened with a gun on the knees
According to Antoine Bourlon, for the agent who is behind the aggression, profiting from a share of the transfer was “what he considered to be a compulsory passage in relation to the work carried out and the fact that he had been in N’Golo’s entourage for a long time”. The amount of the transfer would have sown discord between the agents. “Son transfer, it is 35 million and the amount of commissions exceeds 10 million euros, which today is quite enormous and improbable in the world of football”.
For the journalist, the player is experiencing an interesting development. Passing through several clubs, many people gravitate around him, in particular agents who, without really being in the daily life of the football star, play the role of intermediary in transfers. “Over a given period, and just on the sporting aspect, there are eleven agents who work around N’Golo Kanté. That is the magic of football”.
“He doesn’t want to have any problems”
Contacted by Antoine Bourlon, the sportsman declared “qthat all was well in his life. Very modest, with very little desire to discuss these subjects. He wants things to be settled and not to have problems, either for him or his loved ones”. Above all, he wants to focus on his career.
Absent for many months from the field following injuries, he was notably unable to play with the France team during the World Cup in Qatar. Still according to the journalist from France football, N’Golo Kanté would have resumed full training at Chelsea, a club with which the contract is coming to an end. Nevertheless, he is expected to re-sign for the club. “He will very likely sign a new contract with Chelsea and given his age, this is probably the last contract of his career that he is about to sign”.
