the first wind turbine of the first offshore park in France

The first offshore wind turbine of France’s largest wind farm, located at 12 km off Le Croisic, will soon be put into service. Ten years that EDF has been working on the project. The mast, the nacelles and two of the three blades were assembled at sea thanks to the Fly to the windsthis ship which manages with its four legs to get out of the water and to remain stable on the foundation during operations.

So don’t miss more than a blade, a few tests, and it will be the official launch. The wind turbine should work from here may’s beginning. The weather and the storm got involved, hence the delay. Normally it doesn’t take a week to install a wind turbine but three days.

From thousands of jobs have been created in France since the beginning of the project, which costs a total of two billion euros but will allow by the end of the year, with its 80 wind turbines at sea, to supply 20% of the total electricity consumption of the entire Loire Atlantique, i.e. the consumption of 700,000 people. “We have in front of us cheap and carbon-free electricity, the launch of the maritime energy transition is a historic moment” says the director of marine renewable energies at EDF.

A first wind turbine as a symbolic milestone for a titanic construction. The wind turbines are 1.80 meters tall and each weigh a thousand tons. “It’s a fine mechanical operation, you have to install and assemble the wind turbine to the nearest millimeter“says Olivier de la Laurencie, EDF director of the park.
