Without a ball or fireworks, the first village festival since the death of Thomas in Crépol (Drôme) takes place this weekend, reports Saturday June 1 France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. “This decision was very complicated to make”, underlines the town’s animation committee in a leaflet to announce the event. It was taken in agreement with the parents of the 16-year-old teenager, fatally stabbed on the sidelines of the winter ball on the night of November 18 to 19, 2023.
Several tributes will be paid to Thomas during this traditional scarecrow festival, organized for 30 years. This year, the festivities will last two days instead of three, there will be no ball or fireworks as is usually the case. 450 white armbands will be on sale at free price. The money collected will be donated to the association helping victims of Drôme.
“We wanted to have our party this year, but it’s going to be hard. We’ve prepared our floats for the parade, but we’re going to think hard about Thomas and the victims. I think it’s going to do everyone good find yourself”confides Laure Barnard, president of the Crépol animation committee.
The village hall where Thomas’ murder took place reopened in April. “Life goes on” but “nothing will erase this tragedy”, told the mayor of Crépol, Martine Lagut, to France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. 14 people are indicted as part of the investigation into the teenager’s death.
