Polling stations welcome voters from 8 a.m. this Sunday, April 10 for the first round of the presidential election. In Châteauroux, the town hall took care of preparing them. This Saturday, April 9, the employees got busy so that everything was ready before the opening.
Distribute ballots, collect proxies
The machine is well run. First, we have to tour the polling stations to make sure nothing was overlooked. “We went to check all our polling stations, see if they had been set up correctly, if the voting booths were in place, if there was everything that was needed”, explains Patrick Dupont, head of general affairs at the town hall of Châteauroux. In total, municipal employees went through the 32 polling stations what the city has. “We also distributed the ballots for the 12 candidates in all the polling stations”he adds.
Next step: head to the police station to retrieve the last proxies. This year, there are 838 for the first round. They then have to be put on the attendance lists, which takes a lot of time. “We went to the police station and the court every day to collect them and avoid forgetting anysays Patrick Dupont. Afterwards, the input work is relatively long”.
A busy schedule for employees
Not to mention the preparation of ballot boxes, envelopes and electoral codes. The employees have not been idle. “It’s a busy schedulerecognizes Melanie Teillol, municipal agent. But it’s very motivating because there are lots of things to see, it’s a good adrenaline rush”.
It’s also very meticulous work, where you can’t make any mistakes. “You have to be very attentive, it’s important, we make sure that nothing is missing and that everything is perfect”, assures Mélanie Teillol. May everything be perfect for 29,545 voters registered on the electoral lists in Chateauroux.
Before going to vote, the town hall advises voters not to forget their identity card, and if possible, their voter card. In Chateauroux, polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m..
