Negotiations continue on the evening of Friday, September 20, for the formation of the Barnier government. The Prime Minister must submit his report before the end of the weekend.
While Michel Barnier is finalizing his government, Emmanuel Macron spent his afternoon in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) on Friday, September 20. He spoke for the first time on the subject. “We must let Michel Barnier work. I have appointed a Prime Minister, and it is important that all political groups, with commitment, without irresponsibility, help him to form a government.”he said.
Some names keep coming up: Bruno Retailleau, in particular. A figure of the right, he is tipped to become Minister of the Interior and Immigration, a title that could cause controversy. Annie Genevard, the interim president of the Republicans (LR), should become Minister of Agriculture. Other members of the LR should tilt the government to the right, even if the Macronists are also given a large share: Antoine Armand could thus take over the Ministry of the Economy, and Agnès Pannier-Runacher Ecology.
Among the other personalities kept, Sébastien Lecornu, Rachida Dati and Catherine Vautrin. On the MoDem side, Jean-Noël Barrot would be promoted to Foreign Affairs, and Geneviève Darrieussecq to Health.
