Four months to the day after the October 7 attacks in Israel, France paid a national tribute to the French victims of Hamas. The ceremony, dedicated to the fight against anti-Semitism, took place in the Cour des Invalides in Paris on Wednesday February 7.
To the sound of drums, portraits of the victims of the October 7 attack carried out by Hamas in Israel were paraded in the main courtyard of Les Invalides, in Paris, on Wednesday February 7. The 42 photos were carried by members of the Republican Guard. The orchestra performed Maurice Ravel’s “Kaddish” to initiate a time of prayer. President Emmanuel Macron also spoke, denouncing a “massive and heinous attack” of Hamas. He described this attack as “the greatest anti-Semitic attack of our century”.
The ceremony ended with a Marseillaise
Alongside the families were representatives of the Jewish community and political figures from the left and the right. La France insoumise MP Aymeric Caron was booed upon his arrival, his presence being perceived as “a lack of tact” by lawyer Arno Klarsfeld. Placed under the sign of the fight against anti-Semitism, the ceremony ended with a Marseillaise.
