The French Sailing Federation considers that the decision of its disciplinary commission towards Kevin Escoffier is not severe enough and is appealing this sanction, franceinfo learned on Thursday October 26 from a source close to the matter, confirming information from the Chained Duck.
French sailor Kevin Escoffier has been the target of a legal investigation since July for sexual assault. The athlete received an 18-month suspension on Friday October 20 from the French Sailing Federation. The Breton skipper also received a temporary suspension of his license for five years as well as a 10-year ineligibility for the governing bodies of the FFVoile.
This suspension was decided by the national disciplinary commission of the Federation. Last August, the federation opened disciplinary proceedings for “inappropriate behavior” towards women, targeting skipper Kevin Escoffier. An investigation was opened at the beginning of July by the Paris prosecutor’s office against the 43-year-old sailor for events that occurred in May with a young woman during a stopover on The Ocean Race in the United States.
The Federation and the navigator had seven days to express their disagreement. Kevin Escoffier appealed the decision. So did the Federation, judging that the sanction of its own disciplinary commission was not severe enough, without providing further details for the moment.
