The fate of the Jean-Talon riding will be sealed on Monday

(Montreal) It is this Monday that the citizens of the provincial riding of Jean-Talon will know who will represent them in the National Assembly. This is the fourth complementary election in this constituency since 2008.

Voters who have not exercised their right to vote in advance will have until 8 p.m. Monday to choose between the ten candidates who aspire to replace Joëlle Boutin.

She announced her resignation on July 19 for family and professional reasons.

To replace her and keep the riding within its fold, the Coalition Avenir Québec is counting on Marie-Anik Shoiry.

The fight promises to be tight between the CAQ and the PQ. According to QC125 projections, the party led by Paul St-Pierre Plamondon could obtain 31% of voting intentions, compared to 29% for François Legault’s party. Québec solidaire comes third in voting intentions (18%), followed by the Liberal Party (12%). Éric Duhaime’s Conservative Party brings up the rear with 9% of voting intentions.

The former PQ minister and head of Climat Québec, Martine Ouellet, will try to make a return to the Salon bleu.

Steve Therion, Kadidia Mahamane Bamba and Lucie Perreault will campaign respectively for the Autonomist Team, for the Green Party of Quebec and for Direct Democracy.

An independent candidate is also registered. This is Jean Duval.

More than one in five voters (nearly 22%) have already voted in Jean-Talon during the two days allocated to advance voting.

In the 2022 general elections, eight candidates competed for the seat in Jean-Talon. M Boutin won with 32.50% of the votes and a majority of 2988 votes.

The riding was once a liberal stronghold.

Of the 46,714 registered voters, 73.86% had exercised their right to vote and almost 1% of the ballots had been rejected.
