This is one of many political rallies scheduled for Paris this weekend. The environmental group Extinction Rebellion announced that it had taken over part of the Grands Boulevards, in the center of Paris, to draw the attention of citizens to the climate emergency, on Saturday April 16.

The activists, who were around a thousand on the spot Saturday morning, according to a spokeswoman for the movement, blocked around 300 meters of the boulevards. They hope to turn them into “a great agora” throughout the Easter weekend, to challenge Parisians on the importance of the ecological crisis.

“The electoral process no longer meets the needs of the population” in ecological matters, believes the spokeswoman interviewed by AFP, for whom the debate on the climate and the environment has been “invisibilized” during the campaign. Extinction Rebellion is not the only group to be of this opinion: other collectives call for devoting a significant part of the debate between the two rounds to environmental issues.
