The extension of the “Wuambushu” operation, announced by the Minister of the Interior, demonstrates that “the Republic does not capitulate in Mayotte”, greets Saturday June 24 on franceinfo Estelle Youssouffa, Liot deputy for the 1st district of Mayotte. Launched two months ago, the operation to fight against unsanitary housing, illegal immigration and delinquency was due to end at the end of June.

To justify its extension, Gérald Darmanin presented in the columns of the Figaro flattering results, hailed on franceinfo by Estelle Youssouffa. For the member, this operation allowed a “significant law enforcement presence” in the 101st French department, which contributed “to restore calm”.

Estelle Youssouffa ensures that “Violence has dropped in Mayotte” and that the inhabitants have “been able to take back the public space that had been abandoned to the gangs”. The Minister of the Interior announces that “out of the 57 gang leaders identified at the start, 47 were arrested and brought before the courts”. If she welcomes the increased presence of police and gendarmes on the ground, MP Liot now calls “Justice to be equal to misdeeds and violence” committed by offenders.

“We know that our law enforcement has done the job, we want justice to follow.”

The Mahoran elected official regrets in particular that the sentences are “often mild” against criminals. “We need those who sow terror to be put out of harm’s way, in prison, for a long time”, she adds.

Estelle Youssouffa also believes that “about 50,000” the number of dwellings “illegal in Mayotte”. She therefore judges the “crucial slum issue”, denouncing the illegal occupation “private or public land, with dangerous, unhealthy constructions and whose destruction is essential”. If the government has set itself the objective of destroying a thousand unsanitary huts, MP Liot considers that this figure is “frustrating” given the scale of the phenomenon. “This part of the slums is the heart of the problem, they are lawless areas, which serve as a refuge for criminal gangs, they are traffic areas”denounces the chosen one.
