The exotic gardens of La Roque Gageac

La Roque-Gageac is a beautiful little village nestled in the heart of the Périgord Noir, about fifteen kilometers from Sarlat that you can discover by taking a barge ride on the Dordogne. You can only admire this village nestled between the cliff and the river. It is not for nothing that it is classified among the most favorite villages of the French. Another curiosity in this village is the presence of a magnificent exotic garden.

An exotic garden along the cliff, how is that possible?

La Roque Gageac is a village nestled between the cliff which plays a real role of natural solarium. Facing south-west, the village benefits from a microclimate. Indeed, at night the rocks of the cliff restore the heat stored during the day, the well-draining soil avoids excess humidity and the river below regulates the humidity. Gerard Dorin, passionate about botany, is the creator of this unique place in the Dordogne. As you stroll through this extraordinary garden, you will be charmed by the different species and shimmering colors of all these plantations. Palm trees, olive trees, banana trees, bougainvilleas, orange trees, pomegranate trees, lemon trees and other oleanders, a real treat for any nature-loving walker. The ride is free.

? Listen to Michèle Courbrant, vice president of the association of exotic gardens describe these extraordinary gardens to you.

We have a duty to perpetuate what Gérard DORIN bequeathed to us, it is a long-term job, which must be repeated each year: protect, prune, clean, water, restructure, replant, move, etc…
