The European Parliament will ask for the reimbursement of the sums “unduly paid” to Marine Le Pen

The European Parliament wants her to return the money. The institution counts “proceed for the recovery of sums unduly paid” to Marine Le Pen, announced one of its officials to AFP, Sunday, April 17. The National Rally candidate for the presidential election is accused by the EU Anti-Fraud Office (Olaf) of having embezzled public money while she was an MEP.

Olaf’s report, revealed on Saturday April 16 by Mediapart (article reserved for subscribers)claims that Marine Le Pen embezzled nearly 137,000 euros of European funds for personal use between 2004 and 2017. A figure that rises to 617,000 euros if we include the accusations against three other former MEPs who are members of the party.

“The European Parliament seized Olaf after discovering a part [de ces] irregularities”said the official of the European Parliament interviewed. “We will proceed in the coming weeks to recover from the interested parties”, he added. The candidate has been indicted since 2018 for “embezzlement of public funds” and “complicity”, as part of the investigation on suspicion of fictitious jobs in the European Parliament.
