Are shopping carts going to disappear from supermarkets? The Alsatian brand which gave its name to the product, undermined by the health crisis, has been placed in receivership for the third time in ten years.

It is a brand, but above all a well-known object. Is the Caddy now at the end of its race? Invented in 1928, the steel cart was very successful. But it is apparently no longer a product of the future. Tuesday January 4, employees and unions met in court in the Bas-Rhin. “We are here today to show that we care about this company and that we want it to continue”, reports one of them.

In fifteen years, the company has seen its turnover divided by ten. And the increase in the price of raw materials, in particular steel, linked to the pandemic, does not help matters. Today, the company has run out of cash and has only seven weeks to find a buyer, and thus save jobs.
