Clémentine wants to go abroad for the Easter holidays. Unfortunately, her minor daughter’s identity papers have expired. Also, she hastens to contact the services of the town hall of Marseille to update them. “For the submission of the file, there was no date before at least July!remembers Clementine. It is written on the town hall website that every Friday, they give slots for the coming week but on Friday, the site bugs. Finally, Clémentine gets her early appointment and now hopes to receive the papers in time.
For Parisians, obtaining a renewal of identity card or passport promises to be more difficult. So much so that more and more of them are carrying out their formalities in the provinces, like Anna and her sister, who dream of a vacation in the United States.

Mikaël, for his part, recognizes that he was slow during the pandemic to take the steps. “It poses a practical problem for me because I am in the process of creating a company and obviously I had to have valid papers”, plague Mikaël. “My partner has become president of the company when it should have been me”, the young business creator gets annoyed.
In the town halls, the deadlines are very variable: it takes for example one to five months to obtain an appointment. The limit is the material provided by the State, explains Sébastien Bizot, director of services at the town hall of Issy-les-Moulineaux. “We use state IT solutions, in particular to digitize fingerprints. The state has given us a certain number of stations. Here, we have four, which is already a lot, but we would have a small one. little more, we could multiply the slots which is not possible today.”
The Ministry of the Interior specifies that “113 additional devices” have been “deployed” since 2019 and that, moreover, the countries of the European Union and a few others accept, under conditions, the identity card which has expired for less than five years. The list can be consulted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The identity card, even expired, thus remains valid in France.
