Window on Cassis, an enchanting site in the Mediterranean. Its creeks with crystal clear waters and steep coasts delight tourists and locals alike.
Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône) is a paradise at the gates of which you jostle. On the old port and in the creeks, holidaymakers are always numerous, in September, to enjoy the steep coast with crystal clear waters. Gilles Panzani, captain of the Calanque de Port-Miou, knows every boat that is moored there. It welcomes passing travelers. “We still have a lot of users. There are a lot of foreigners this season, who come to enjoy the calm of the calanque”, he confides. Today, a storm threatens. The sailors seek shelter for the night.
In the Calanques National Park, the harbor master ensures that the rules are respected: no anchoring, to preserve the seabed. The Calanque de Port-Miou is distinguished from the others by its status as a nautical base. It is home to many sailboats. “This calanque is not in danger, but nevertheless, it must be protected, (…) because in fact it is subject to strong human pressure”Explain Gilles Panzani. Fabienne Henry, from Narval Plongée Cassis, swapped her lawyer’s dress for a diving suit. She knows every rock in the creeks, and wants them to remain wild. The creeks, sanctuary of biodiversity, require daily attention, which is beginning to bear fruit.
