The collision between two trains which left at least 36 dead and more than 80 injured, Wednesday, March 1, in Greece, at the level of the Tempé Valley, is representative, for the Greeks, of the dilapidated state of the country’s rail network. “According to the unions, it has been more than 20 years since any signaling system has worked, it is desperately understaffed”notes Claire Verove, live from Larissa (Greece).
Transport minister resigns
Less than a month ago, the wage organizations warned that if nothing was done, a disaster could occur. “Faced with the scale of the policy, the Minister of Transport had no choice but to resign this afternoon acknowledging the responsibility of the State”, reports the journalist. This Wednesday evening, the whole country is angry, while the search continues. Firefighters no longer hope to find survivors.
