the cost of living increases in Tours and explodes in Angers according to Unef

The cost of student life is increasing everywhere in France according to the ranking published this Monday, August 22 by Unef. Far behind the first three, Paris (1,332.52 euros), Nanterre (1,190.52 euros) and Saint-Denis (1,176.52 euros), Tours is the 34th most expensive city for students with 907.81 euros spending on average per month, just ahead of Angers (911.64 euros).

Slight drop in rents in Tours

As the Agate (General Association of Tourangelle Student Associations) had assured last week about the start of the school year, life is more expensive in Tours for students. They spend 4.78% more according to Unef.

This is less than the national average (6.47%) thanks to the – very relative – fall in the cost of rents: 416 euros per month, or -0.48% compared to the previous year. In 2021, they had increased by 3.44%.

Angers, city where the cost of living increases the most

Unlike Tours, the capital of Anjou is well above the national average: the cost of living has increased by 11.42% compared to last year, in particular because of theincrease in rental prices (+ 13.55%). The average of the latter therefore goes from 369 euros to 419 euros in just one year.

This increase is justified locally by several factors: few offers for strong demand and a city that is attracting more and more people, 42% of rental applicants come from other regions“, says the student union.
