the confinement of the inhabitants of Bordezac lifted, the firefighters “rather reassured”

After more than 24 hours of fighting against a gigantic fire which has already ravaged 650 hectares of forest in the Cévennes Gard, hope is reborn this Friday evening in this sector. The confinement of the inhabitants of Bordezac is lifted. And the device is lightened: 150 firefighters, mainly from Hérault and Bouches-du-Rhône, leave the sector. There are still 550 firefighters on site for the night.

The perimeter – even if we said that the fire was not completely fixed – evolves little, explains this Friday evening on France Bleu Gard Lozère Lieutenant Colonel Laurent Joseph, commander of the SDIS 30 relief operations. Recoveries often take place inside the perimeter, in large areas that have remained green, but which could represent a threat, if the fire grew, to overflow the perimeter and threaten homes. This is what we fought against during the day, with success“.

“We are rather reassured of the situation […] We are monitoring now. Even if nothing happens, we are here. And if we ever see something going off in the night, we are immediately there to stop it.” – Lieutenant-Colonel Laurent Joseph, commander of the SDIS 30 rescue operations, on France Bleu Gard Lozère
