In the aftermath of the unprecedented air attack carried out by Iran on Saturday April 13, Israelis oscillate between relief and concern. Some Jerusalemites want a backlash.

Jerusalem’s busiest market, Mahane Yehuda, was almost deserted on Sunday April 14. “Dramatic Night”, “Iranian attack”, “Israel defends itself”… We had prepared ourselves and we hope that the hardest part is behind us,” confides a man who scans the front pages of the newspapers from a market terrace. “I was woken up by the ‘boom’ then the sirens, but I stayed in bed. My wife went to our shelter and this morning we went out anyway”says a man.

“I hope we run into them”

Yossef Barabi, market gardener, is reassured by the aerial protection provided by the Iron Dome. “Thank you to everyone who stood by us and helped us, the United States, Great Britain and even Jordan. It was not easy for them”he notes.

At the table, a man and a woman argue about whether or not Israel should respond to this attack. “I hope we’re going to hit them, really. I trust our politicians for that”estimates the woman, while her interlocutor judges that“Israel does not need to retaliate. We are already in conflict with enough countries in the region”.
