He is one of the voices that keeps coming back to us. When he was about to turn 60, Rachid Taha died on September 12, 2018. Five years later, his work, rich and diverse, still bears witness. From his years in Lyon with the group Carte de Séjour he released two albums and this Sweet France so political, in France in the 1980s.
Then he made ten solo albums, in which he mixed the music of his Algerian origins with rock or electronica, such as with an Arabic cover of Rock the Casbah Clashes.
An intense and major artist
Rachid Taha was therefore well worth a box set, of 14 CDs, after having been at the center of a tribute to his friend Rodolphe Burger’s It’s in the Valley festival, in the heart of last autumn. The box set pays thanks to his inspirations, his obsessions up to his last album, the posthumous I am Africanreleased in 2019.
The singer was the subject of a documentary recently broadcast on France 5, Rachid Taha, rocker without borders, still available in replay. Rachid Taha, to be listened to or rediscovered, is an intense and major artist, from a French scene which only considers itself interesting when it shakes up and questions.
