the city wants to put a stop to the multiplication of Airbnb rentals

The city of Colmar wants to counter the proliferation of Airbnb-type furnished rentals. This Monday evening in city council, it will adopt a deliberation to limit the growth of furnished rentals.

Rentals in 30% increase since 2020.

Curbing the proliferation of rentals

In Colmar, the town hall has taken stock: there are 1,200 dwellings devoted to rental in the city center. A French record for a city of 70,000 inhabitants, while the number of inhabitants fell by 18 during the last census and there are 275 additional dwellings.

As is done in Strasbourg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé or even Kaysersberg, Colmar will limit the possibility for owners to multiply Airbnb accommodations.

That residents can continue to settle in the city center

“There will now be no more than one Airbnb accommodation for a natural person and no more than one also per legal entity. It will also be the obligation to create traditional accommodation when creating tourist accommodation,” specifies Eric Straumann, the mayor of Colmar. “Sanctions can go up to 50,000 euros as for example in Paris,” continues Eric Straumann.

Recently, moreover, the town hall has closed a building, which has been completely transformed into a place for tourist rental. “It is an investor who has transformed 11 apartments into 11 tourist apartments, with 33 beds. We are in the caricature of what these tourist accommodations can represent. we don’t want that anymore,” summarizes the mayor of Colmar.
