The city of Amiens (Somme) is preparing to test the anti-begging decree. It will be applied between the months of May and August.

Prohibiting homeless people from begging in the shopping streets: this is the project of the town hall of Amiens (Somme), which has just announced an anti-begging decree in the city center. The town hall explains that this decree will be put in place following numerous complaints from traders, who report disturbances around their shops.

An order tested from May to August

This anti-begging decree will be tested from May to August in Amiens. Municipal police officers will be able to fine homeless people or ask them to leave. This decision is contested by associations which work with the homeless. “Forbidding them from begging in the city center is condemning them to no longer earning anything and invisibilize even more”estimates Amina Selmi, general secretary of the Maraudes Citoyens Amiénoises association. The town hall admitted to fearing a massive influx of homeless people driven out of the capital for the Olympics.
