The historic Chapel of the Good Shepherd must be reborn from its ashes. Why not adopt a formula like $1 from the public, $2 from Montreal, and $3 from the Government of Quebec? Sponsors, both Anglophone and Francophone, philanthropic organizations (Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste, McDonald-Stewart Foundation, Canadian Center for Architecture, etc.) and businesses could also participate in the fundraising campaign.
The work should be entrusted if possible to architects and contractors specializing in heritage construction, who would claim only their costs in time and material. Building materials companies could also donate materials. In such a way that, the Chapel belonging to all of Quebec, all of Quebec would have contributed to its reconstruction.
I’m waiting for an address to send my first twenty dollars. The Chapel dates from a time when corvée was in the spotlight, a modern corvée would then have restored it. Let it not be said that the history of Quebec is going up in smoke.
