It’s time for the post-Desabre at the Chamois Niortais. No new coach announced yet, the news could come “between 48 hours and three weeks”, says Mikaël Hanouna. The general manager of Chamois Niortais held a press conference this Monday, August 8.
One thing is certain, the contract with Sébastien Desabre is officially terminated, he who therefore takes the lead in the selection of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The formalization of the news by the Congolese federation this Saturday, August 6, a few hours before the first home game of the season in Niort caused quite an imbroglio.
I was thinking of a hoax, I was wondering if April 1st in Congo was not August 6th
Mickaël Hanouna learned the information on Saturday like everyone else. “I was thinking of a hoax, I was wondering if April 1st in Congo was not August 6th”, he says. The general manager of the Chamois says he was “very surprised. The timing was really very very bad, it was a lack of consideration towards the club. And we were never contacted for any operation whatsoever”.
Sébastien Desabre was still under contract until June 2023 with the Chamois and the club was discussing its extension. Mikaël Hanouna knew that “his dream has always been to train a team and possibly take an African team to the World Cup. Between dream and reality there is a process”.
We have a shortlist of three or four names
Place now at the looking for a new coach. “We have a shortlist of three or four names and we have started the meetings”explains Mikaël Hanouna.
In this shortlist, Benoit Tavenot, ex-assistant coach of Metz present this Monday in Niort. “He is “Niort-compatible. He is in a very good place on the list, we really like his profile, he was director of the training center in Bastia, assistant coach, who has a professional coaching diploma and who is at a stage in his career where he wants to show his value by leading a first team”, says the DG.
While waiting for the white smoke, it’s the deputies Arnaud González and Ande Dona Ndoh who take charge of the preparation of the team before the 3rd day of Ligue 2 and the trip to a former Ligue 1 club, Bordeaux.
