Will the trapped inhabitants of Mariupol (Ukraine) be able to leave their besieged city? The ceasefire promised by the Russians was not respected, Thursday March 31, and the 160,000 civilians survive while waiting to flee.
In Mariupol (Ukraine), Thursday, March 31, the deaf noise of the bombardments did not stop. A ceasefire had however been promised by the Russians, and it was to last all day. In the streets, some residents were not even aware of this ceasefire. Impossible to know who shot first. The inhabitants have no choice: they have to go out and sometimes walk for miles to find something to eat.
For the past few days, food aid has been distributed by the Russians and the separatists in a parking lot. The inhabitants bear witness to the horror that their city has become. “Can you imagine living and walking on corpses?”calls out a resident, before another continues: “Step over corpses that haven’t been buried for two weeks”. In the gardens of the building courtyards, makeshift tombs have been dug.
