The castle of Salignac in the Dordogne is looking for a mason, lauzier, passionate about history and old stones

Abandoned, bruised by history and forgotten, it was in 2006 that the Château de Salignac was bought by its current owners. Falling in love with the place, the family throws itself body and soul into the rescue of the monument. And the needs are enormous! For 16 years, the work has aimed to secure the large dwelling, redo the floors, the frames and the roofs, and remove the 20th century fittings. Major works are to be planned to preserve the exterior walls of the castle. To continue the work, the castle is looking for a stone worker (mason, lauzier) passionate about history and old stones to strengthen the team and contribute to the project.

Required profile :

  • Good experience in different types of masonry
  • Prior experience in heritage restoration and slate roofing would be a plus
  • Someone passionate about history, curious and open to discovering ancient techniques
  • Adaptable and rigorous
  • Ready to form (dry stone walls, lauzes…)
  • Passionate and fascinating (being able to present the project and exchange with our visitors)

Duties:

  • Preservation and reconstruction of the castle (restoration of parapets, curtain walls and keep, among others, …)
  • Building sites inside the castle
  • Be involved in the opening of the castle to the public during the summer season

The contract will be for a fixed term with possible evolution in CDI.
