The Carabins stand as ramparts in front of the Rouge et Or

There is winning, and winning. The Carabins won a historic 28-0 victory against the Rouge et Or on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed house at CEPSUM.

This is the very first time that Montreal has shut out Laval in the long history of the rivalry. The Carabins had also never beaten Laval University by such a large difference of points. The previous mark was 21 points difference (2009, 2021).

Jonathan Sénécal shone again during this match, as he has done since the start of his Quebec university career. It was he who opened the scoring, precisely by running, with a touchdown at 1er quarter. He then nicely backhanded the ball to his main target on Saturday, Hassane Dosso, for a second major at the start of the 2e quarter. Sénécal obtained 252 yards passing, in addition to adding 61 yards rushing.

Then, the Montreal defense took care of the rest, making the Quebec team’s offensive line have a frustrating afternoon. She managed to contain Laval the entire game, preventing them from even approaching the end zone.

Nicky Farinaccio notably intercepted an Arnaud Desjardins pass at the end of 1er quarter. Desjardins also suffered four sacks, including 1.5 by defensive lineman Christopher Fontenard.

Even the other points that the Montrealers scored represent the domination of their defense: in addition to two field goals, it went for no less than four safety touchdowns.

The University of Montreal, still undefeated, ensured that it finished the season at the top of the RSEQ rankings. She faces Concordia for her last match of the season, on October 28.
