Won by Lorraine Richard and Martin Ouellet in 2018, the two counties passed into the hands of the caquistes, and frankly.
In Duplessis, Kateri Champagne Jourdain won with a majority that exceeded 40% at the time of writing these lines. The PQ narrowly saved Duplessis in 2018 by winning with just a 127-vote lead, but the CAQ’s push was too strong this time around, with the citizens of Baie-Comeau and surrounding areas lining up behind the elected government.
On the side of René-Lévesque, it is the former mayor of Baie-Comeau Yves Montigny who was elected for the banner of the CAQ on Monday evening. It is another riding historically associated with the PQ, which also bears the name of the most famous PQ premier in history, which rocks, a sign of the party’s difficulties in the east of the province despite a campaign in beyond expectations. The new deputy won with a strong majority of nearly 60% of votes after the opening of just over 70 polling stations.
