“Study the past and the present well, evaluate different scenarios for the future so that we are able to continue to be even more proud of our Quebec nation and we must always remember that our nation is unique, there is no there is no other nation where we have a majority of French speakers surrounded by English speakers (..), we are like a small Gallic village, “said the outgoing Prime Minister on Monday, passing through Longueuil.

The research chairs would have the function of “supporting research on the reality and ambitions of Quebec”, particularly in terms of language, culture, history, geography and politics. Even the independence of Quebec could be the subject of a study.

“We cannot exclude, indeed, it is a project which is completely legitimate, specified the head of the CAQ. Obviously, I don’t think it’s the priority of Quebecers, even sovereignists currently, but anything that allows you to study Quebec will be accepted.

An “independent committee” led by the Chief Scientist and the Quebec Research Fund will handle the implementation and allocation of funding. François Legault also wants the opposition parties to be involved in the formation of the committee.

The outgoing government is planning an envelope of $40 million to finance these chairs. Each of them would get a maximum of $1.5 million over three years, with the possibility of renewal.
