The Canadian confirmed Wednesday morning that the young defender has obtained a first three-year contract.

This contract will bring Mailloux a salary of $750,000 this season, then $832,500 during the following two seasons. The agreement is also accompanied by a signing bonus of $92,500. That salary increases to $70,000 per season if he ever plays in the American League.

“It is obviously a decision that we have thought about in depth,” said general manager Kent Hughes in a press release, a reference to the troubled past of the young player, once convicted by the Swedish courts for having photographed, without his consent. , his sexual partner.

“Having Logan around our team members and hockey operations staff for much of the summer has allowed us to get to know and appreciate him better. Logan has the opportunity to become an agent of positive change and we will work to support him in any effort towards this goal. He recognizes the impact of his gesture and of course, the process continues. »

Logan Mailloux had been the first choice of the Canadian, the 31e in total, during the 2021 draft. The selection of the former administration of the Canadian had caused a lot of talk, especially because the young man himself had asked to be ignored in the draft, the time to work on him.

On the ice, he has accumulated very little mileage in recent years. In 2020-2021, he played 19 games in the Swedish third division. And last season he was limited to 12 games with the London Knights. He missed the first half of the season due to a suspension from the Ontario Junior League (OHL) for his felony, and then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in March. He did not play in preseason games and trained without contact.
