Gallagher briefly left Wednesday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks after blocking a shot from Tyler Myers in the first period.

He was also involved in a scrum with defender Oliver Ekman-Larsson and goalkeeper Thatcher Demko in the second period.

For his part, defenseman Mike Matheson reunited with his teammates on the ice at the Bell Sports Complex for the first time since suffering an abdominal muscle injury.

Matheson is said to have been injured during the Canadian’s trip to the Maritimes at the end of his camp, early in October. His absence had been estimated at eight weeks.

The Pointe-Claire native had to avoid contact in training on Friday. He resumed training on ice alone last Saturday.

Matheson was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jeff Petry and Ryan Poehling on July 16.

The Canadiens will also host the Penguins on Saturday at the Bell Centre.
