The prefecture of Calvados suspended for three months the authorization of the funeral company Le Tourneurs du Val, based in Trouville-sur-Mer (Calvados), for having organized a ceremony without the body of the deceased, reports Thursday October 3 France Bleu Normandie (Calvados-Orne).

The facts date back to Saturday September 14. The family of the deceased meets at the crematorium for the cremation of the body. The coffin is tightly closed, with the regulatory plaque in the name of the deceased. But during the ceremony, the crematorium receives a call from the funeral directors. The company did not have time to place the body of the deceased in coffin, the coffin was empty.

“Our agents asked themselves the question of what was appropriate to do”explains the Crématoriums de France company. They decide not to warn the family, then in full contemplation. At the end of the ceremony, the funeral directors accompany the relatives of the deceased, without warning them of the situation. The family was finally notified two days later, on Monday.

The cremation of the body could take place the next day. The family did not file a complaint. Requested by France Bleu Normandie, the funeral company Le Tourneurs du Val informs that an appeal has been filed with the administrative court to contest the prefectural decree.
