In November 2022, Arion and Mathieu Lussier resurrected Henri-Joseph Rigel, a German composer born in 1741, who led his career in France from 1767 until his death in 1799. This project is strategic for Arion. Mathieu Lussier, through his natural curiosity for this “post-baroque” repertoire, positions himself as a partner of choice for the Baroque Music Center of Versailles, while French conductors are busy performing Lully, Rameau and Charpentier, among others. Like the concert of the time, the disc juxtaposes orchestral works, arias and duets sung by Magali Simard-Galdès and the luminous tenor Nicholas Scott, and, with the excellent Mélisande McNabney, two scores for keyboard and orchestra, including a symphony for the harpsichord or fortepiano, where, optionally, the orchestra doubles the keyboard. Arion and Atma succeeded very well in formatting, immediately captivating with the opening and three arias and duets from the pastoral comedy White and Vermilion. A great discovery.
