The announcement of the reduction in collection from the milk giant Lactalis worries the unions, who fear a new mobilization of farmers.
A drastic drop in milk collection in France for the world number 1 in milk, Lactalis. Some 8.8% less has been announced by 2030. The company explains that it wants to avoid milk surpluses. Difficult to resell, these are transformed into powder and used as an ingredient for manufacturers. All for too little profitability, underlines Yohann Barbe, president of the National Federation of Milk Producers (FNPL).
A falling milk collection would lead to a lack of buyers for French producers. The unions fear a renewed anger after a year already strongly marked by the agricultural crisis, poor harvests, and bluetongue on livestock farms. “All the planets are aligned so that our producers, beyond revolt, take action”assures Bruno Parmentier, economist specializing in agriculture and food. For its part, Lactalis promises that farmers affected by this drop will be supported.
